Railway station Františkovy Lázně
The railway station is located in the Františkovy Lázně town monument reserve. It was built in 1855 by the Royal Saxon State Railways. It has undergone several reconstructions over time, especially between 1882 and 1945. It is an extremely interesting and valuable building, it is the last existing historical station building built by the Cheb Royal Saxon Railway Administration, which is preserved in its original material form with later additions. It is a valuable object of railway architecture, its importance also lies in the city-building aspect. Františkovy Lázně was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2021.
The design of the project seeks maximum respect for the physical essence of the building in the exterior and interior. Of course, while respecting the investor's requirements for the functional use and equipment of the building with technologies at today's modern level in such a way that the building remains a testimony to the historical and social transformation of rail travel.
The material design of the building has been retained, including later additions, and we propose to remove only two small additions to the entrances, as well as the modern roofing over the platform, so that it can be replaced by a reproduction of the original structure with cast iron supporting elements.
The building still serves its original use as a passenger building, which is equipped with flats originally intended for railway employees. The interior of the building emphasises the preservation of the existing state of the compactly integrated station hall (without partitioning). The necessary functional and technological facilities and commercial spaces are placed next to it. In the eastern extension of ground floor in the northern part of the building are located technological facilities, and in the southern part are the previously reconstructed toilets. In the eastern wing there are administrative offices. In the west wing there are also technological premises in the northern part, in the southern part there is an apartment. The apartments in both wings are connected to a separate entrance. The flats in the central building are accessible from the staircases adjacent to the main entrance to the station. In total, there are six flats in the central building, two flats in the east wing and three flats in the west wing. The attic space remains open, used only for technology. The same applies to the basement.
